Your first eSIM: a practical checklist
Check the essentials before choosing a digital SIM.
Check your device first
Look for an eSIM option in your phone’s settings and confirm your exact model and region with the manufacturer. A phone can support eSIM and still be locked to a mobile network. Both compatibility and an unlocked device matter.
Buy the connection and usage you need
The eSIM price covers the SIM profile. Data credit and calling minutes are separate purchases. Compare the full starter cost, including a useful first top-up, rather than looking only at the SIM headline price.
Keep a reliable setup connection
Use a trusted Wi-Fi connection when installing an eSIM. Keep the installation details somewhere private. Do not delete an installed profile as a troubleshooting step unless your provider confirms it can be installed again.
Take your time before travelling
Check the destination, supported networks, activation instructions and any validity conditions before departure. Keep another means of communication available while you complete setup.
